Modern football began its journey in the XII century in medieval England. Back then, football was played in market squares and even in narrow, curved streets. It was played from morning till night. The number of players exceeded 100 people, while almost no restrictions existed. It was possible to play with both hands and feet, it was allowed to grab the player holding the ball, knock him off his feet. As soon as the player took possession of the ball, a merry, lush crowd of players immediately followed him. As a result, trading stalls collapsed, bazaar stalls spread into pieces. And the traveler Gaston de Foy, watching the game of football, exclaimed: “If the British call it a game, then what do they call a fight?!” So football was born in this way. And now he is half-popular all over the world and is a game of millions. Ghana is no exception. The Ghanaian Premier League gave the world such famous teams as Berekum Chelsea, Aduana Stars and many others.
Ghana football: development and head team
Up to the beginning of the twenty-first century, the Ghana team was considered competitive exclusively in tournaments of the black continent. By world standards, Ghana was a middling about which European teams learned only in the case of friendly matches. But in the new millennium, the situation has changed dramatically, and now Ghana is one of the legislators of African football mods, participating in the final tournament of the world championship for the third time in a row. The black stars began their qualifying path right away from the second round, the benefit of which in the Ghana ranking is one of the leading places. Ghana fell into Group D, where the national teams of Zambia, Lesotho and Sudan became its rivals. The competition for the first place could arise only from the side of the winner of the African Cup of Nations in 2012, the national team of Zambia.
Ghana held the first match against Lesotho in the same breath, beating the opponent with a degrading 7: 0 score. At the same time, in a parallel game, Sudan sensationally outplayed Zambia, but that result was canceled due to the fact that a disqualified player Saif Ali appeared in the Sudanese national team. As a result, a 0: 2 defeat turned 3: 0 for Zambia. Just a week later, Zambia played with Ghana and won this crucial match with a score of 1: 0. The only goal was scored by Katongo. It would seem that a similar result could break the Ghanaians, but it was not there! Wards of James Kwesi Appiah managed to return the standings in an acceptable direction. In the next round, Ghana defeated Sudan, and Zambia lost points in a game with Lesotho. Then Zambia failed to beat Sudan, but everyone understood that the meeting in Ghana would be the decisive game. That match ended in victory for the “black stars” with a score of 2: 1. Majid Waris and Kwadvo Asamoa distinguished themselves among the Ghanaians, while in Zambia Nathan Sinkala delivered the only accurate shot.
Having won the first place in the group, the Ghana national team was among the ten teams that were divided into pairs. The final selection procedure is extremely simple – the winner of each pair received a ticket to the World Cup in Brazil. Rivals team Ghana became Egypt. Immediately after the draw, many Ghanaians were very depressed, given that Egypt was considered one of the favorites in the qualifying tournament. After all, the group stage “Pharaohs” passed with one hundred percent indicator, winning all six matches. And what was the surprise of the result of the first match … Ghana defeated Egypt with a derogatory score of 6: 1! That evening, the “black stars” turned out absolutely everything. To the joy of the crowded Baba Yar stadium, they smashed one of Africa’s strongest teams to pieces. Already in the fourth minute Gyan opened the scoring, beginning the beating of the Egyptians. Asamoah, in the end, designed a double. Besides him, Waris, Muntari and Atsu were beaten, and Gomaa sent the ball into his own net. Egypt’s only goal was scored by Abutrik.
Actually the second match turned into a mere formality. It ended with the victory of Egypt with a score of 2: 1, but everyone was well aware that Ghana would not give up its leadership with five goals. The top scorer, not only in the national team of Ghana, but throughout the African qualifying round was Asamoah Gyan, who has eight goals. Majid Waris and Sally Muntari scored twice less.
- Takeoff. Having won the qualifying group with 5 victories in 6 matches, the Ghanaians in the joint fell on the terrible Egypt. Each Egyptian was promised $ 43,000 for the World Cup, but 7: 3 in favor of Ghana in the sum of two matches left the “Pharaohs” without money. And the Ghanaians were given only $ 15,000.
- Swipe. After flying out at 1/8 in 2006 and drama at 1/4 at the 2010 World Cup, when Gyan didn’t score a Uruguay penalty at the end of overtime, the Africans hope to move forward. “I assure you, given the experience, Ghana will be out in 1/2,” said ex-player Stephen Appiah.
- Derby. Kevin-Prince Boateng at the World Cup group stage will try to get revenge from his brother Jerome (Germany). In 2010, the German won Boateng – 1: 0.
- Trainer. James Kwesi Appiah worked in the youth team of Ghana (he won the African Games) and was an assistant in the main team, which he himself received in 2012. He never stops learning: last year, he took courses at Manchester City, in this, at Liverpool.
- Star. Kevin-Prince grew up in Berlin, played for the German youth team, but then decided to play for Ghana, from which he was temporarily dismissed for refusing to play in a freelance team with Nigeria in 2011. In 2010, the Germans cursed this excessively hot-tempered guy: before the World Cup in the League Cup final, he broke Ballack. And Boateng has 14 tattoos!
For many years, the goalkeeper position in the national team of Ghana was firmly attached to Richard Kingston, who first drew under the banner of the national team back in 1996. But now he is already thirty-five years old and he is in favor of the team of the second Turkish character, “Balıkesirspor”, so he simply didn’t have a chance to go to the world championship. Now number one in the national team of Ghana is Fatau Dauda, who plays for the South African club Orlando Pirates. We can’t say that the goalkeeper shines with reliability, but especially to choose from whom.
Protection of the national team of Ghana also does not look too impressive. And again, remember the veterans. John Mensa, who is captain in South Africa four years ago, is not even being called up for the national team right now. And why should he be called if he is in favor of the Slovak club “Nitra”, and before that he was a player of the Ghanaian team “Asante Kotoko”. You understand that this is not a level at all. But then Jonathan Mensah appeared in the Ghanaian national team. He has nothing to do with John. Is that soon may become the captain of the national team of Ghana. Jonathan himself prefers to be called solely by name and even Jonathan is written on his T-shirt, not Mens. Probably does not want to be confused with John. Together with him in the center of defense, most likely, John Boyer from Rennes will be located, but there is an option that Appiah can trust Jerry Akaminko from Eskisehirspor.
The positions of the flank defenders in the Ghana national team are variable. The only nominal left-back, Jeff Schlupp, had only one match for the national team. We make an assumption that there will be located Harrison Afful, acting in Tunisia. Samuel Incum and Daniel Oparre can come out on the right with equal probability. But the average line of the national team of Ghana looks incredibly powerful! The center sees a pair of experienced midfielders from Milan Essien-Muntari. It is joyful that Michael will get to the World Cup this time, because four years ago he was left without a trip to the World Cup due to injury. On the left, Kwadvo Asamoa’s Bianconerry will definitely play, but Kevin-Prince Boateng will close the right curb, although it is problematic to tie the player to Schalke to a particular position, knowing his love for improvisation. The attack also raises no questions. Appiah will rely on the attacking duo in the person of Andre Aiju and Asamoah Gyan. This couple has been playing with each other for a long time and interacts very well. But if they suddenly fail to do something, then Majid Waris can easily appear on the field who after leaving for rent from Spartak to Valenciennes blossomed with bright colors.
In the spotlight
Choosing a player to whom you should pay special attention, I, frankly, honestly doubted for a long time. Someone, I am sure, would like to see Kvadvo Asamoah here. Others are Sally Muntari or Michael Essien. Even Andre Aija could well have been under our attentive “microscope”, but I’ll still focus on Kevin-Prince Boateng and not so much because of his gaming but because of his leadership qualities. He could play for Germany as his brother Jerome Boateng, but Kevin-Prince decided to play for Ghana, although he was born in West Berlin. As Kevin-Prince himself admits, if he had not become a footballer, he would have become a criminal. And, fortunately, he chose the first option for the development of his life.
What way did the team of Ghana get?
Ghana’s national football team is a professional team, one of the strongest teams in Africa. Until 1957, it was called the Gold Coast team. In 2006 and 2010 she participated in the final stages of the world championships. Both times went to the playoffs. Since the 1960s, it was the Black Stars (the Ghanaian players bear such a nickname) that were considered one of the strongest teams in Africa. They several times became winners of the African Nations Cup, but for a long time could not get through to the world championships. In 1992, the Olympic team from this country was able to win bronze medals at the Olympics in Barcelona. In the 2010s, the team of Ghana consisted of players representing the strongest European championships, the more surprising that star athletes could not win at the African Nations Cup, stopping several times a step away from the decisive match. As of March 12, 2013, the Ghana national team ranks 40th in the ranking of the best football teams.
Ghana Premier League: teams
Asante Kotoko is the most award-winning club of Ghana, both in the domestic and international arenas. “Porcupines” twice became the strongest club in Africa, winning the Champions Cup, and 21 times became the strongest in the country. In participation in the final matches, the Asante Kotoko Champions Cup takes a solid second place, second only to Al-Ahli – they reached the final seven times. Their main rivals are the Hearts of Oak team. Ashanti Gold (Obuasi) also belongs to the Ghana Football Premier League. The club was founded in 1978. The team’s statistics are not bad; the players show a high level on the field; they get little red cards.
Ghanaian sorcerer claimed responsibility for Ronaldo’s injury
Ghana’s influential sorcerer Nana Kwaku Bonsa claims that it is he who is responsible for the injury of Portuguese team leader Cristiano Ronaldo received on the eve of the start of the world championship. According to the sorcerer, he performed a series of magical rituals aimed at neutralizing Ronaldo.
“I continue to work on it, I declare with all seriousness that last week I found four dogs in the district and I will use them when calling for a special spirit. Four months ago I promised that I would prevent Ronaldo from performing at the World Cup or at least I will play with the team of Ghana “, – said Bonsa.
